“She wants to take us back to the Politics of mobilizing people along religious identity. Specifically, she has been using few church leaders to push for her political interest, and the majority of the church officials are being threatened, transferred to villages and arbitrary retired because of supporting those against her interest. After decades of political turmoil, we cannot accept a leader who will divide our people. Our enemy is poverty, illiteracy, need for national cohesion and not narrow political interests."-Amongi stressed.
Amongi further noted that they have worked hard in Northern region with other leaders to persuade people to support the politics of dialogue, engagements and building bridges; Working together with NRM and H.E President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Amongi noted that as mature leaders, they they need a principled position and a recognition that Uganda’s political formations that seek to present alternative political approaches to leadership in this country.
"I can not proceed on the premise of chaos and anarchy occasioned by political extremism and a dangerous narrative that aim to once again reintroduce the use of violence as a means to political objectives" - Amongi.
She further said, as a upc diehard, they strongly hold engagement with the ruling party stems from the understanding that othe politicians don't need.
"Many of our othe politicians want violence for or against each other- nor do we need to solicit foreign support against our own country. Rather, we need to build a political class that should prepare the country for a peaceful transition based on dialogue, engagement and consensus building. unfortunately, many of them have been driving the political ideology of extremism deliberately creating a wedge between political parties, threatening our strategy of promoting national cohesion and unity" - Amongi.
In conclusion, Amongi stressed that Without clarity in ideology, politics is anchored on a wrong premise.
"During the campaign, I shall articulate the development Agenda for the people of Lira city, ranging from infrastructure development, initiatives to eradicate poverty, support to vulnerable groups through skilling, provision of cheap capital for small and micro businesses, Bodaboda women and many more. We shall handle the issue of garbage, youth empowerment and pro bono legal services to our people. For now, Our focus must be to liberate ourselves first, from the reign of terror being directed at business community, civil servants, security officers and medical officers, all working under constant threats of either being terminated, transferred or arrested, when you cross the path of the MP/Minister. Our approach will be engagements with all stakeholders to build our city."- Amongi.
