A journalist with Top TV identified as Miracle Ibrah, has today February 26, 2026, been severely injured while covering the nomination of National Unity Platform candidate, Counsel Elias Nalukoola Luyimbazi.
It’s reported that he was severely hit by a tear gas canister that was thrown into supporters of counsel Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola, who had gathered at Mbogo mosque to welcome their candidate for Kawempe North Division Member of Parliament by-elections.
The victim was seriously hit on one of his eyes as he tried to follow counsel Nalukoola following his nomination by Kawempe Electoral Commission returning officer Mr. Henry Makabayi.
Counsel Elias Nalukoola Luyimbazi was the third candidate to be nominated today after the nomination of independent candidates; Hajjat Hanifah Karadi and Muhammed Luswa Luwembo.
Meanwhile, the victim was rushed to Nsambya hospital for medication. The Uganda Human Rights Network for journalists has condemned the incident describing it as violation of press freedom and rights.

In other news, Mr. Fahad Kayondo who had presented himself for nomination as the flag bearer for the Uganda Federal Alliance was blocked from being nominated after the party Secretary General, Mr. John bosco Mugasira wrote to the Electoral Commission disowning him as their party candidate.
The party Secretary General said they have resolved not to field a candidate but agreed to support Independent candidate Hanifah Karadi whom they promised to support in the Kawempe North Division MP by-elections.
