Photos: Hon. Anitah Among, welcomed Hon. Ojara Martin Mapenduzi and Hon. Anthony Akol into the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party earlier today.
Anthony Akol gained notoriety for engaging in a physical altercation, including last year with Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake during a heated debate over the Coffee Bill.
Kilak North legislator Anthony Akol has defected from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
The Amuru legislator disclosed this at his Thanksgiving function held in his constituency on Saturday and officiated by the Speaker of Parliament Anita Among.
The deal, which has already been sealed, is expected to be officially unveiled to President Yoweri Museveni soon.
Mr Akol's decision to switch parties comes as no surprise to many, given his history of controversy and disagreements with his former party colleagues.
He has gained notoriety for engaging in a physical altercation, including last year with Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake during a heated debate over the Coffee Bill.
Akol's departure from FDC is seen as a significant blow to the opposition party, which has been struggling to maintain unity among its members.
The move is also likely to be viewed as a strategic maneuver by the NRM to bolster its support in the northern region.
While Akol's reasons for defecting to the NRM are not yet clear, it is rumored that he may have been promised a significant role in the party or even a cabinet position.
Whatever the motivations, one thing is certain - Akol's departure from FDC marks a significant shift in the country's political landscape.
