Yesterday, the deputy spokesperson of the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF), Lt. Col. Deo Akiiki was appointed as the Military Assistant (MA) to Gen. Muhoozi kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations.
Akiiki announced his appointment on Friday, stating that it was made by the CDF and takes immediate effect.
He expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him by the UPDF leadership.
“I take this honour to officially announce that I have been appointed by the Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor to H.E on Special Operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, as his Military Assistant (MA),” Akiiki said.
Having served in the UPDF for over 20 years, Akiiki reflected on his career, which included working with the media fraternity since the days of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) insurgency in northern Uganda in 2004, operations in Karamoja, Somalia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and serving as Deputy Spokesperson of the UPDF for the past seven years.
“This is a statement of honour and trust that I am going to serve at the helm of the leadership of UPDF. I don't take it for granted,” he said, thanking the UPDF leadership for the appointment.
Akiiki called on journalists and colleagues to continue working with the office of the Director of Defence Public Information (DDPI), led by Maj. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, and his yet-to-be-appointed deputy.
