Security has arrested a hostile NUP supporter over video he filmed threatening to ‘behead’ NRM members

Kampala, (UG):- Security operatives in Kampala have arrested one Musa Wagareiwo, a supporter of the National Unity Platform (NUP), who appeared in a viral TikTok video issuing violent threats against members of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

In the widely circulated video, Wagareiwo, dressed in full NUP attire, including a red beret and party insignias, was recorded warning that NUP radicals would retaliate against NRM supporters by “beheading” them if jailed political prisoners, including Dr. Kizza Besigye, were not released.

His remarks followed NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, issuing a 48-hour ultimatum to the government, demanding the release of Dr. Besigye and other detained opposition figures. Wagareiwo’s video quickly sparked public outcry, with many expressing concerns over escalating political tensions.

In response, security agencies launched a manhunt, and a breakthrough came on Wednesday afternoon, when operatives from the Crime Intelligence (CI) unit tracked and arrested him in Makerere Kikoni, a Kampala suburb.

Security authorities identified Wagareiwo as a motorcycle mechanic and said he is currently in police custody waiting to be arraigned in court on charges related to inciting violence and issuing threats.

The Police have since urged the public to exercise restraint and avoid inflammatory statements, warning that anyone inciting violence will face legal action.
