SIRONKO: FDC Leaders Defect to Ruling NRM With Influence Of Eng. Nakiyi

A section of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) leaders has joined the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), citing their admiration for the leadership qualities of Eng. Julius Nakiyi, the NRM parliamentary aspirant for Budadiri East.

Among the defectors is Paul Nangoli, the Busulani LCV councilor and an FDC cardholder. Nangoli acknowledged that many have known him as a personal assistant to Nakiyi despite his affiliation with the opposition.
He revealed that Nakiyi convinced him to join NRM, promising to aggressively mobilize support for him and protect his votes to prevent a repeat of the 2015 NRM primary election fraud.

Another notable defector is Stephen Madanda, the LC1 chairman of Namaguli, who crossed over to NRM with his entire family. Madanda, once a dedicated FDC mobilizer known as the “Symbol of Defiance,” stated that Nakiyi played a significant role in his decision. He pledged to mobilize support for Nakiyi ahead of the elections.

Wilson Wambaka, the NRM administrative assistant for Sironko district, officially welcomed the new members and handed each of them an NRM party card. He urged them to uphold the party’s principles and mobilize others to join the ruling party.

Speaking on the defections, Julius Nakiyi emphasized the need for leaders who prioritize the interests of the people over party affiliations. He assured voters that if elected, he would serve all people, regardless of their political background.

However, Patrick Waniaye, the FDC chairman for Sironko, dismissed the defections, claiming that the mentioned individuals were already working for NRM. He insisted that FDC leaders in the district remain focused on grassroots mobilization and candidate vetting for the upcoming elections.
