Mbale Secondary School will commission the construction of a UGX 4 billion Science and Technology Hub on June 14, 2025, as part of its 75th-anniversary celebrations.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday at the official launch of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, Head Teacher Moses Buyera confirmed that His Excellency, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, is expected to be the chief guest at the groundbreaking ceremony.
"We thank you all for the moral support we have enjoyed over the years. We promise to uphold the high standards of discipline and academic excellence for the good of our community," Buyera stated.
Uthman Mugoya, Interim Chairman of the Old Students Association, told Bugisu intellectual that this is a milestone, calling on alumni, the local community, businesses, and the media to support the celebrations.
“Our theme for the day is ‘Enhancing Innovation and Excellence.’ We aim to build an innovation hub at Mbale SS one of its kind in the Eastern Region and hopefully the largest in the country," Mugoya said.
He further appealed to key stakeholders, including the Uganda Communications Commission, media houses, telecommunications companies, and business leaders, to contribute to the initiative.
"We have young innovators in the community who lack a platform to develop their ideas. This hub will nurture new talents, fostering scientific and technological advancement in the country," Mugoya added.
Mbale City RCC Asumin Nasike commended the school’s commitment to science and technology, noting that the hub will provide students with practical applications of scientific concepts.
"As the head of security, I assure you of our full support. We will ensure the safety of students and the protection of the school's properties," Nasike said.
The Science and Technology Hub is expected to play a crucial role in promoting innovation and research, positioning Mbale Secondary School as a leader in STEM education in Uganda.
