The NRM Vice-Chairman, Eastern Region, Flt. Captain Mike Mukula and the vice president of Uganda, Rt. Major Jessica Alupo Call  for a Violence Free and Fair 2026 General elections as former IGP is laid to rest in Palisa.

While addressing  the mourns today, at the burial ceremony of the former inspector general of police (IGP), Cossy Odomel, Mukula called upon all politicians and other stakeholders to avoid violence, hatred, intimidation, and cheating an election as the country draws closer to the 2026 general elections.

"We all know that the elections are near, and  everyone is gearing up for campaigns, but let us avoid violence in elections. I want to also take this opportunity to request all the security organs never to be involved in politics, let the people decide who to lead them," - Mukula said.

Late Odomel, served as the IGP between 1992-1998, died peacefully on Tuesday, 18th February 2025, in India.

Mukula further noted that for the Teso region to develop, all leaders have to be united.

"You take an example, Teso is blessed and loved by President Yoweri Museveni, the vice president is from teso, the speaker is also from teso, we have more than four ministers from teso, the Ghoverner of the Bank of Uganda is also from Teso, therefore, let us use this opportunity to develop our region than having useless fights amongst ourselves,"- he said

Mukula concluded by saying  that late Odomel's  invaluable contributions to the Uganda Police Force will forever be remembered. He guided many young officers on discipline and attitude towards work. Late Odomel was more interested in the welfare of the personnel under him, and he emphasized barracks cleanliness,"- Mukula

Late Odomel was married to Mary Magdalene Aino Odomel, who passed away in October 2024.

He is the second former IGP the country has lost in a space of a week after Okoth Ogola, who was pronounced dead last Friday morning at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala.

Representing President Museveni, who was supposed to be the chief guest, Rt. Major Jessica Alupo rated the late as an officer who was trustworthy, transparent, and hardworking.

"I personally liked late Odomel during his time in office, we had deciplineed officers who never involved themselves in politics like these days"-she said.

Not very far from Mukula, Vp alupo also advocated for a violent free and fair election, most especially in Teso region.

"I am a victim of circumstances, I was cheated in an election, and it is unbelievable that it was Teso reguonal police Commander who sneaked away the ballot boxes, took them to Kampala claiming that I had cheated an election. This was blackmail of the highest order"- said Alupo.

Alupo further requested the mourners to vote for President Museveni and also embrace government programs like the ongoing PDM in order to get out of poverty.

"President Museveni's Government has brought peace, liberty, and prosperity in Teso. Let us embrace and be part of the pdm. Let us all rely behind

President M7 in the further coming general elections.
