NBS, NTV, Monitor reporters blocked from covering Museveni function in Bunyoro

Journalists from Daily Monitor, NTV, and NBS TV were today told that they were not welcome to cover the commissioning of Bunyoro University by President Museveni.

Sources told us that Daily Monitor’s Alex Ashaba, NTV ‘s Joseph Kasumba, and NBS TV’s Allan Mwesigwa were told by a soldier from the Special Forces Command (SFC) that they had received orders from above not to be allowed in.

“They told them that you know what is happening and asked us to turn around and go away,” said one of our sources in Bunyoro.

Only journalists from New Vision, Bukedde TV, UBC, Tayari TV, and local radio stations were allowed to cover the function.

The move comes a few days after some journalists from NBS TV, Daily Monitor, and NTV were brutalized while covering the Kawempe North by-election.

It is not clear whether the Bunyoro incident is related to what happened in Kawempe.

Maj Jimmy Omara, the SFC spokesperson, told Bbeg Media that he was not aware of the developments. He suggested that we contact the president’s press team.
