Read About The Kaliro Farmer's Journey to Prosperity through President M7's PDM wealth creation initiative

Coordinator for Kaliro District, paid a visit to Mr. Girigwa Eliot’s farm to assess the progress of his project, which was funded through the Parish Development Model (PDM).

Mr. Girigwa, a resident of Namwiwa Ward, received UGX 1 million in September 2023 as part of the government’s initiative to uplift communities through wealth creation.

Determined to turn his fortunes around, Girigwa invested the funds in pig farming, carefully budgeting for piglets, a pigsty, veterinary care, and animal feeds.

Below is how he planned his expenditure:

- Bought four piglets at 70,000 UGX each, totaling 280,000 UGX

- Constructed a pigsty at 120,000 UGX

- Spent 60,000 UGX on medication for the piglets

- Used 90,000 UGX to buy feeds

- Saved the remaining balance to continue purchasing animal feeds

When Mr. Wabwire visited the farm on Friday, he was delighted to find that the initial investment had paid off; what started with four piglets had grown into a thriving piggery, now boasting several pigs and five new piglets.

Speaking about his experience, Mr. Girigwa admitted that he had never imagined himself as a pig farmer, but the opportunity granted by the government has changed his life.

Today, I am proud to own pigs for the first time. I thank the government for thinking about us," he said.

He, however, pointed out some challenges affecting his farm business, including the shortage of animal feeds during the dry season and the high cost of veterinary medicine.

Namwiwa Ward Town Agent, Ms. Kaire who accompanied Mr Wabwire on the farm visit, commended Mr Girigwa for wisely utilizing the funds and encouraged other beneficiaries to follow his example. He was also advised to roof his pigsty to protect his piglets, especially during the rainy season.

Mr. Wabwire, on behalf of President Museveni's ONC, applauded the role of local leaders in guiding citizens toward productive ventures, emphasizing that success stories like Mr. Girigwa’s prove that the Parish Development Model is truly transforming lives.

Girigwa's journey, from having no knowledge of pig farming to becoming a successful livestock keeper, is a testament to the power of government initiatives when resources are effectively utilized.
