Speaker Among presides over the African Organisation of Public Accounts Committee (AFROPAC) conference at Golden Tulip Hotel

Today, the Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Anita Among presided over the African Organisation of Public Accounts Committee (AFROPAC) conference at Golden Tulip Hotel, focusing on combating illicit financial flows and promoting public financial resilience.

While giving his remarks,  Speaker Among decried the increasing deficit of public trust amongst Africans towards their respective Government, which she attributed to corruption and poor service delivery.

Among expressed her frustration during the official opening of the 5th African Organisation of Public Accounts Committees (AFROPAC) Assembly, held under the theme: “Illicit Financial Flows and Fostering Public Financial Resilience” that will take place between 17th -21st March 2025, at Golden Tulip Hotel in Kampala.

“In almost every country on that continent, there is a growing deficit of the public trust in the governments because they do not get what is expected of government because these monies have not been used in a proper way. There is discontent within the quality of service delivery. There is widening inequality among the populace and escalating unsustainable public debt. This is where you get the rich are really rich and where you get the poor are really poor because of this kind of thing,” said Among

Among also decried the increasing deficit of public trust amongst Africans towards their respective Government, which she attributed to corruption and poor service delivery.

She expressed her frustration during the official opening of the 5th African Organisation of Public Accounts Committees (AFROPAC) Assembly, held under the theme: “Illicit Financial Flows and Fostering Public Financial Resilience” that will take place between 17th -21st March 2025, at Golden Tulip Hotel in Kampala.

"Citizens may pay taxes to finance government operations. In return, expect satisfactory service delivery and accountability. In most countries, that is the opposite and that is unfortunate. The service delivery is not achieved though it is the expectation of the citizens," remarked Among.
