What You Need To Know:

The Ruto-Odinga alliance was sparked by the 2024 protests in Kenya, where youth-led demonstrations against tax hikes and governance issues pressured President William Ruto to seek broader political stability.

Raila Odinga, a long-time opposition leader, had lost the 2022 presidential election to Ruto but began engaging in dialogue with him in late 2024 to address national unrest and economic challenges.

The National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report, released in March 2024, recommended political reconciliation, providing a framework for Ruto and Odinga to formalize their collaboration.

On February 7, 2025, Ruto and Odinga signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, marking their official partnership to implement the NADCO recommendations and address Kenya's socio-economic issues.
