BCU Registers Economic growth of Revenue from sales of clean coffee from 3.1bn in 2023 to 6bn in 2024 Amidist several petitions & criticism From Wamulugwa



The Bugisu Cooperative Union (BCU) has today held its 64th Annual General Meeting to present the externa auditor's report about the performance of the Cooperative. 

During the AGM, Hon. Nandala Mafabi, chairman BCU confirmed to farmers and members of the Cooperative of a double economic growth.

According to the external Auditor's report, Nandala Mafabi assured farmers and stakeholders of a huge economic growth at the Cooperative.

The report showed the Union revenue from clean coffee doubled from Shs 3.1bn in 2023 to Shs 6 bn in 2024, though Nandala noted that there was a decline in coffee supply from 589,000kgs in w023 to 167,280 Kgs in 2024.

Nandala noted that the decline in coffee supply to BCU resulted from various reasons which included:-  unserious Cooperative members who turned Cooperatives at different zones into other businesses.

Nandala was not happy with his critics, who claim that BCU is collapsing, this forced him to sting Wamulugwa, the former chairman and now his rival.

"We would be far with this comparative, but we have selfish people like the Wamulugwa who keep sending petition to our stake holders. Despite the challenges, and continues petitions, I am happy the following achievements during the period under review. The 2nd line of the Union installed plant processors capacity was repaired and Is now working" Said Nandala.

Nandala also noted that the union offered bursaries and paid tuition for 275 students in various higher institutions of learning in auganda.

The Union Won instance in MZO and 1 court case over Union Bunambutye land. Farmers of different coffee zones have been invited to apply to be allocated parts of the land for cultivating and income generation. So far some have been allocated and paid. 

The Unin has also written to government requesting for funds to finance a value addition plant and equipment.

Bcu has assured the 2nd payment to farmers who delivered coffee during the period of 2022,2023, and 2024.

While making his conclusions, Nandala Mafabi assured farmers that BCU is moving forward and they should expect better prices.
